Statement from Alderman Bob Donovan February 4, 2020

By - Feb 4th, 2020 12:26 pm

Early this morning a Milwaukee police officer was shot in the line of duty after attempting to stop a reckless driver, only to see the vehicle speed away and result in a crash. The suspects fled the scene of the accident, and once the police pursued shots were fired striking one officer.

Thankfully, the officer is in stable condition and the injury does not appear life threatening. I wish him a full and speedy recovery, and offer my thoughts and prayers to him and his family, friends and colleagues on the MPD force.

I also want to take a moment to recognize and thank all of the brave men and women of the Milwaukee Police Department, and law enforcement officers everywhere, for their daily dedication to keeping communities safe. They put on their uniform in the name of protecting and serving others, and often the job can be thankless. Moments like this shine a light on just how difficult and dangerous the job can be.

This particular incident can he chalked up to yet another occurrence of reckless driving. At some point we all need to start taking responsibility for our actions and practice responsibility on the road. In doing so, it could save your life and the lives of those around you while contributing to a safer city.
