Ramlow/Stein Architecture + Interiors has announced that Tara Christian, who has been with the firm for more than 20 years and serves as its Director of Interior Design, has been named a partner at the firm, becoming a co-owner with Scott Ramlow, president, and Nat Stein, vice president.

Christian began her professional career at the firm, then known as Uihlein Wilson Architects, in 2001 as an intern. She joined the firm full time in January 2002 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a BA in Interior Architecture. She was named Director of Interior Design in 2014 and was promoted to Associate in 2021.

Ramlow said Christian’s invitation to become a partner reflects her significant contributions to the organization’s growth and also underscores the critical role that interior design services play in Ramlow/Stein’s services.

“Tara has grown with our firm and has consistently met the needs of our clients through her leadership and creative approach to designing inviting and comfortable spaces,” Ramlow said. “Interior design is a critical part of creating a complete and functional building and Tara’s work has significantly elevated our firm’s capabilities and accomplishments.”

Ramlow/Stein is one of few mid-sized architectural firms to have a female partner along with one who serves as Director of Interior Design. The work of Christian and her team at Ramlow/Stein has been recognized with numerous awards, including the American Society of Interior Designers, American School & University, Daily Reporter – Top Projects, MANDI Awards and Mayor’s Design Awards.

“As a young girl growing up, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in interior design. I was inspired by an aunt who worked in the industry in Atlanta, and to be able to have a built a career doing something I have such passion for is incredibly gratifying,” Christian said. “We have a great interior design team here at Ramlow/Stein and a culture that puts architecture and interior design on the same footing. We’re in a great position to continue our growth and providing a holistic approach to building and design.”

Christian is involved in virtually every project the firm works on. Recent notable projects include the Racine County Youth Development and Care Center, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Evoni Historic Third Ward Apartments, the Upper School Commons at University School of Milwaukee (USM), the restoration of Old Main at the Milwaukee VA Soldiers Home campus, the new Humanities building at UW-Madison – Levy Hall, and numerous projects at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, including Diercks Hall, Viets Tower, the Spitzer Dining Commons and the Campus Welcome Center.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to have Tara on our team; the leadership and thoughtfulness she brings to her work has played a critical role in our growth,” Stein said. “She always puts the client’s needs first and brings superb value with high-quality results.”

Christian has professional affiliations with the American Society of Interior Design (ASID), the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), and the Waukesha County Business Alliance.
