Public Works Committee approves two new traffic safety projects for 14th Aldermanic District

At today’s meeting (Wednesday, February 14), the Public Works Committee approved two new traffic safety projects meant to reduce speeding and increase pedestrian and motorist safety in Milwaukee’s 14th Aldermanic District. The first project will re-pave S. Austin Street from E. Clarence Street to E. Deer Place with new asphalt as well as lay a new concrete curb, gutter, and sidewalk. The second project will install new traffic calming speed tables on S. Howell Ave. between Schiller and Homer Streets.

14th District Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic strongly supports both measures. “Combating reckless driving and providing for the safety of all who use Milwaukee’s roadways are issues that I remain steadfastly committed to solving,” said Alderwoman Dimitrijevic. “I want to thank the residents who contacted our office and helped push for these improvements. These new projects approved by the Public Works Committee are another step in the right direction to making these goals a reality. We have seen similar efforts in the district have a positive impact, and I believe these projects will.”

“Projects like these, however,” the Alderwoman continued, “are only the beginning. All residents deserve to drive, bike, and walk freely and safely in their communities. As an alderwoman, I will continue to advocate for more traffic safety measures as well as continue to think of ways in which we can utilize infrastructure as a vehicle for positive change in Milwaukee.”
