Proposed Development in the 9th District has Received 100% Opposition
Statement of Alderwoman Larresa Taylor
Christian Faith Fellowship Church has proposed to build a 190-unit apartment complex on property adjacent to their church at 8605 W. Good Hope Rd. This proposal is geared toward young professionals, would be market-rate luxury apartments, and would be solely financed by the church with no cost to taxpayers.
The community has shared its concerns about the proposed development over the course of four meetings. During these meetings, the developers have tried to address the community’s concerns, listen to their opinions, and answer all their questions, including those surrounding noise, pollution, traffic, safety, building design and size, and property management.
These concerns from neighbors are understandable, and during these meetings, my stance has remained the same: my support for this project will follow the residents’ wishes in the area. To this point, the objection has been unanimous.
My approach has nothing to do with my feelings about the project itself, but rather to appropriately represent the position of my constituents. After four meetings, the developers have not been able to sufficiently address neighbors’ concerns to secure local support for their project.
In fairness, I am more than willing to provide neighbors and developers as much time as needed to come to a consensus, should that be the desire. The quest for a compromise continues.
