(Milwaukee, WI) The Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) is pleased to showcase the unique works of photographers Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman at MOWA On The Lake located at Saint John’s On The Lake, 1840 North Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee. The exhibition will be on display from July 18–October 8, 2019.

A complimentary reception and Artist’s Talk will mark the exhibit opening Thursday, July 18.

The reception begins at 5:45 p.m. in the Museum Gallery, followed by the Artist’s Talk at 6:30 p.m. in the Cultural Arts Center.

Light refreshments will be served.

Photographers Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman have collaborated for more than thirty years on projects that challenge the viewer to think differently. In Processed Views: Surveying the Industrial Landscape, the dynamic duo reinterprets the work of nineteenth-century photographer Carleton Watkins whose western landscapes were both aesthetic documentation and advertisements for the bounty of America. Ciurej and Lochman use mass-produced, processed foods such as marshmallows, potato chips, cereal, and gelatin to recreate these landscapes, forcing the viewer to reexamine notions of consumption, progress, and changing landscapes—both natural and societal.

Light Refreshments will also be served at Gallery Day and Night:

Friday, July 19, 5:00–9:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 20, 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

MOWA On The Lake is Open daily from 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Admission is free. Limited parking is available on the south side of building.

Saint John’s roots date back to 1868 when the organization was founded as shelter services by women of the Episcopal Church. Today, Saint John’s is an independent, non-profit organization and diverse, inclusive and vibrant retirement community with more than 330 residents.
