Post-Christmas Mulch-O-Rama returns to the Garden District

By - Dec 28th, 2023 08:27 am

The Garden District Neighborhood Association, Alderman Scott Spiker, the City of Milwaukee, and the Department of Public Works are once again hosting a Christmas tree “Mulch-O-Rama” on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at S. 6th St. and W. Norwich Ave. (just south of W. Howard Ave.).

The event – which aims to help keep Christmas trees out of the landfill by converting them into mulch (by city crews) for gardens and yards – will be held in the Garden District Farmers Market parking lot located at S. 6th and Norwich, across from the Robert Anderson Municipal Building, 4001 S. 6th St.

“This program has been met with great appreciation from area residents, and I encourage neighbors to participate as a way to help reduce the number of trees that will go to the landfill and thereby create a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly solution,” Alderman Spiker said. “I want to thank the neighborhood association and city staff for making this event happen and providing benefit to our district and the city.”

Trees should not be wrapped and all decorations and ornaments should be removed before being dropped off. Collected mulch will be used in the flowerbeds along 6th Street. The GDNA will also be collecting non-working holiday lights during the event.
