Please make plans for responsible alcohol consumption
Statement of Alderman Lamont Westmoreland November 22, 2023
Let’s face it – there’s a reason many of the ‘drunkest cities’ in the U.S. are in Wisconsin: We like to imbibe and there is a strong and sometimes even over-the-top drinking culture here.
But consuming alcohol can ALWAYS be done in a safe and responsible manner, no matter the occasion.
So I have a strong reminder for those who will be having a few drinks with family and/or friends this holiday season: You can always be SMART and considerate while enjoying yourself with a drink or two at parties and other gatherings.Know your limits and stick to a plan for keeping yourself and others safe. DO NOT drive if you are impaired – there is ZERO excuse for doing so and you could end up injured or deceased, or you could injure or kill someone else.
DO use alternative transportation (Uber, Lyft, cab/taxi services, city bus, calling for a ride, having a designated driver). There are MANY options so there are NO excuses!
Let’s drink responsibly (always!) and make sure we keep our community and our city safe.
