Packers Sign WR Watson to Contract Extension
The Green Bay Packers have signed WR Christian Watson to a contract extension. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Thursday.
Watson, who was selected by the Packers in the second round (No. 34 overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, has played in 48 games with 45 starts in his first four seasons and has appeared in three postseason contests with one start. He has registered 133 receptions for 2,264 yards (17.0 avg.) and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 117 yards and two TDs on 16 carries (7.3 avg.). Among players with 100-plus receptions, Watson ranks No. 2 in the NFL since entering the league in 2022 with an average of 17.0 yards per catch.
Watson is one of only three players in team history to post 125-plus catches and average 17.0-plus yards per catch in his first four NFL seasons (WRs Billy Howton and James Lofton). He has posted first downs on 97 of his 133 career receptions, a 72.9 percentage that ranks No. 3 in the NFL since 2022 (min. 100 rec.). Of his 133 catches, 50 have been explosive gains (16-plus yards), a 37.6 percentage that ranks No. 9 in the league since 2022 (min. 100 rec.). Watson is one of four players in team history with five-plus receiving TDs in three of his first four NFL seasons, joining WRs Don Hutson (four), Antonio Freeman (three) and Max McGee (three).
