On the passing of dedicated public servant Don Richards
Statement of Alderwoman Larresa Taylor January 7, 2026
I was saddened to learn of the passing on December 26, 2025 of former 9th District Alderman Don Richards, who served on the Common Council from 1988 to 2004.
Don was a fiercely proud public servant who served his district and constituents with every ounce of energy he had. He championed fair trade, economic development and public safety, and was instrumental in the development of Granville.
Many also remember Don for participating in the Open Housing marches during the 1960s, his standing up for human rights, his support for workers, and for peace and justice for all people.
I honor and thank Don for his commitment and selfless service to the 9th District and to the City of Milwaukee, and I offer my sincere condolences to his loved ones and friends.
