Nine state businesses win 2017 MARKETPLACE Governor’s Awards

Top minority, woman and veteran-owned businesses were recognized for their success at annual MARKETPLACE conference

MADISON, WI. Dec.  19, 2017 – Nine Wisconsin businesses received top honors in the 2017 MARKETPLACE Governor’s Awards competition, which recognizes outstanding businesses owned by minorities, women and service-disabled veterans.

The awards were presented by Governor Scott Walker and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) at MARKETPLACE 2017, the Governor’s Conference on Minority Business Development, which was held at last week the Potawatomi Expo Center in Milwaukee.

More than 800 people attended MARKETPLACE 2017 and the Wisconsin Small Business Academy, a companion event for new businesses and entrepreneurs.

The MARKETPLACE Outstanding Business Awards recognize Wisconsin businesses that show overall business excellence in sales growth, product innovation, employment and management. Those awards have two categories, one for businesses with more than 25 employees and one for small businesses with 25 or fewer employees. The Rising Star Awards honor businesses established after 2012 that have demonstrated strong growth potential.

All winners are Wisconsin-based companies certified by the Wisconsin Department of Administration as being minority (MBE), woman (WBE) or disabled veteran-owned (DVB) business enterprises.

The 2017 Outstanding Business Award winners are:

  • Able Access Transportation LLC, Milwaukee – MBE
  • Metal-Era Inc. , Waukesha – MBE
  • EO Johnson Business Technologies, Wausau – WBE
  • Physical Therapy of Milwaukee LLC, Milwaukee – MBE
  • Milestone Plumbing Inc, Wauwatosa – WBE
  • American Pride Industrial Equipment & Services LLC, Green Bay – DVB
  • Middleton Construction Consulting LLC, Madison – DVB

The 2017 Rising Star Award winners are:

  • Octopi Brewing LLC, Waunakee – MBE
  • Terra Translations LLC, Wauwatosa – WBE

The winners and finalists were recognized at a Thursday luncheon attended by Governor Walker and more than 500 conference attendees, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors and awardee guests.

MARKETPLACE is the premier statewide business capacity building conference of the year for minority, woman and veteran-owned businesses looking to do business with state, federal and local agencies as well as corporations. The conference provides opportunities for businesses to meet with potential buyers, identify funding sources, and connect with business assistance resources while networking with other businesses.
