New Council File Aims to Improve City Streets by Enhancing Pothole Repairs
New file seeks greatly expanded pothole filling by DPW
Today (Tuesday, April 21) a new Common Council communication file (Council file #252223) was introduced that seeks a significant expansion of the city’s pothole filling operations.
Sponsored by Alderwoman Andrea M. Pratt, and co-sponsored by Alderman Mark Chambers, Jr., the file is expected to be heard soon by the Public Works Committee.
“We are getting a constant stream of calls and emails from constituents who are done with the poor conditions of their local streets, and who have strongly indicated a desire for crews to be present filling potholes and making repairs 24/7,” Alderwoman Pratt and Alderman Chambers said.
“In too many neighborhoods, streets are simply overrun by deep and large potholes that are capable of causing damage to vehicles, and as a city we need to do more to address the issue,” they said.
Alderwoman Pratt and Alderman Chambers noted Council members will be tasking the Department of Public Works with finding ways of expanding pothole crews to having them work at night and on weekends. “We are hearing our constituents’ concerns about the outrageous numbers of potholes, and addressing those concerns will begin with file number 252223 and a response and plan of action by DPW,” they said.
