MREA Announces Partnership with 1% for the Planet
The Midwest Renewable Energy Association is now eligible to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies.
Central, WI, 8/11/16 – The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) of Wisconsin and Minnesota, is a new nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet, an alliance of more than 1,000 member companies in 40 countries that give one percent of revenues to environmental causes like MREA’s.
MREA is now eligible to receive donations from 1% for the Planet member companies, placing them among a diverse, global network of environmental organizations. 1% member businesses fuel this nonprofit network through their annual contributions. Partnership with 1% greatly expands the potential pool of funding to which MREA can look to for support.
“1% for the Planet member businesses donate at least 1% of their annual sales to support environmental nonprofits,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. “We believe deeply that these nonprofits play a critical role in solving the many challenges facing our planet, and our core work is to grow the corporate support that enables these nonprofits to accomplish even more.”
Founded in 1990, MREA has been contributing to a healthier planet by promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration. The MREA hosts an Annual Energy Fair, free Solar Power Hour information sessions in communities, leads solar group buy purchasing programs, builds the solar workforce through hands-on solar training academies, hosts The Wisconsin Solar Home and Business Tour, and provides technical assistance to universities to define roadmaps for on and off-campus solar investment.
Over 3,800 nonprofits worldwide are included in the 1% for the Planet network, and over $145 million has been funneled to its nonprofit partners to date.
1% for the Planet is a global organization, leading a network of businesses, nonprofits, and individuals working together for a healthy planet. Launched in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, former owner of Blue Ribbon Flies, our network consists of more than 1,100 member companies and thousands of approved nonprofit partners in more than 40 countries. Brands whose products and services feature the 1% for the Planet logo give 1% of sales annually to nonprofit organizations dedicated to protecting the environment. Our members have given more than $145 million back to the planet since 2002. Look for our logo and visit www.onepercentfortheplanet.org to learn more.
