MPD Officers Involved in a Serious Injury Collision

MILWAUKEE, WI – On Monday, June 6, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers observed a vehicle with no license plates traveling at an excessive speed on the 2400 block of W. Atkinson Avenue. Officers conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle initially stopped; however, as officers approached, the suspect fled and a pursuit ensued.

During the pursuit, an MPD squad operating with emergency lights and siren activated was involved in an collision with an uninvolved vehicle on W. Capitol Drive and N. Teutonia Avenue.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle was also involved in a crash with two other vehicles on the 3800 block of N. Teutonia Avenue.

The vehicle that was involved in the collision with the squad was occupied by three individuals. Two of the individuals left the scene on foot and later sought medical attention at a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. The third occupant of the vehicle, a 54-year-old Milwaukee man, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.

The suspect, a 19-year-old Milwaukee man, fled on foot and was arrested after a foot pursuit. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries. The suspect vehicle was determined to be stolen.

A 28-year-old Milwaukee woman, who was driving a vehicle that was struck by the suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.

The officers involved in this incident are a 24-year-old male officer with over 5 years of service and a 35-year-old male officer with over 9 years of service. Both officers sustained non-fatal injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. They will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in an officer involved critical incidents.

This is a fluid and ongoing investigation. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident. The Waukesha Police Department will be the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
