MPD investigates a fatal accident
On Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at approximately 4:25 p.m., a marked MPD squad was traveling westbound on the 900 block of E. Oklahoma Avenue when a vehicle that was traveling eastbound crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and struck the squad car head on.
The driver of the striking vehicle, a 27-year-old man from Milwaukee had to be extricated from the vehicle. He sustained fatal injuries.
The passenger of the striking vehicle, a 25-year-old woman from Milwaukee sustained non-life threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The squad that was struck was occupied by a 54-year-old male officer who sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The officer is a 17-year veteran.
The circumstances leading up to the accident are under investigation.
