The Milwaukee Press Club Endowment board unanimously approved the appointment of Tamia Fowlkes to the board. Fowlkes, an award-winning journalist and investigative reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, will fill a term that expires in September 2025.

“The work this organization seeks to achieve aligns very closely with my desire to help educate and uplift the next generation of young journalists and provide pathways for their success in this industry,” Fowlkes said. “I am honored and thrilled to be joining the team.”

The MPC Endowment is an independent philanthropic affiliate of the Milwaukee Press Club. It provides scholarships, internships, training grants and awards to advance journalism.

Fowlkes says she developed a passion for journalism starting in middle school and advanced her skills as a student at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School. She attained a journalism degree with a double major in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she focused on covering health care, elections, climate and issues of race, gender and politics.

Before joining the Journal Sentinel, Fowlkes completed internships at the Washington Post, “The Rachel Maddow Show” and the Wisconsin State Journal.

“Tamia brings to the board an evident eagerness to be involved and make a difference in the journalism community in Milwaukee,” Joel Dresang, president of the Endowment, said. “We welcome her perspectives as an emerging professional who has earned scholarships and internships along the way. She already has experience serving on journalism boards, including as a student representative for the National Association of Black Journalists.”

The MPC Endowment is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1973 to advance journalism excellence. As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Endowment has launched the Solomon Juneau fundraising campaign. For more information, go to MPCEndowment.org.
