MLAX Falls 14-7 in Season Opener to No. 20 Michigan
MILWAUKEE, WI — The Marquette University men’s lacrosse team opened the 2026 campaign with a 14–7 setback against No. 20 Michigan on Saturday at Valley Fields.
Junior attackman Carsen Brandt led the Golden Eagles with two goals, while Matt Caputo recorded two assists. Senior goalkeeper Lucas Lawas finished the day with 16 saves.
Michigan built an early advantage with two goals in the opening four minutes, but Marquette responded with a man-up goal from Andrew Bowman late in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 2–1. The Wolverines extended their lead in the second period, scoring five times, while Marquette countered with two goals from Brandt and one from Brady Nicholas to trail by three at halftime.Marquette opened the second half with a goal from Tucker Mullen, assisted by Caputo, but Michigan answered with a strong third quarter, scoring four times to regain control. The Wolverines added three goals early in the fourth quarter to push the margin to nine.
The Golden Eagles closed the game with goals from Jake Bair and Beau Westphal.
NOTABLES:
• Lawas finished with 16 saves, one shy of his career high.

The Golden Eagles return to action against No. 8 Notre Dame on Saturday, February 14. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.
