MLAX clears Air Force, 9-8, at Loyla Academy
Senior Nolan Rappis netted his fourth hat trick of the season and Lawas made 15 saves
WILMETTE, Illinois— Senior Nolan Rappis posted his fourth hat trick of the year and Lucas Lawas made 15 saves in a 9-8 victory for the Marquette University men’s lacrosse team over Air Force at Loyola Academy on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (5-3) trailed 7-4 with 4:12 remaining the the third quarter following consecutive goals from AFA’s Cole Rassas. Midfielder Jake Bair answered just under two minute later with his first goal of the season and capped a 5-1 MU scoring run with the game winner at the 8:30 mark of the fourth quarter.Senior midfielder Will Foster posted a game-high five points on a pair of goals and three assists, while Lawas notched a .652 save percentage and recorded 15 saves, one short of a season-best effort.
Redshirt sophomore faceoff specialist Adam Slager went 11-for-21 at the dot and recorded his first goal of the year to tie the game, 7-7, with 1:25 to play in the third quarter.
UP NEXT: Marquette returns home to open conference play against St. John’s on Saturday, March 29 in a doubleheader with the MU women. The men face the Red Storm at 11 a.m. with the women to follow.
