MILWAUKEE – February 25, 2022 – Milwaukee Excellence Charter School announced today that it has received approval from the Milwaukee Public Schools Board of Directors to enter a four-year lease for the former Happy Hill campus located at 7171 W. Brown Deer Road. Milwaukee Excellence intends to move its high school to this location for the start of the 2022-23 school year. The high school is currently co-located at Andrew S. Douglas public middle school.

“We are grateful to MPS leadership and the MPS Board of Directors for their partnership in identifying and approving a long-term lease opportunity that supports our high school scholars and inspires excellence,” said Rodney Lynk, Jr, chief executive officer of Milwaukee Excellence. “We firmly believe that the northside of Milwaukee deserves more investment in high quality education, and we are determined to do everything we can to give our current and future students the opportunity to succeed.”

Milwaukee Excellence has experienced steady growth and achievement since its founding in 2016. As enrollment continues to grow, the need for longer-term learning spaces has become paramount. The opportunity to house its high school in its own free-standing location offers Milwaukee Excellence high school students and their families a more stable foundation to focus on their journey to college and career. The new location offers more classrooms, a dedicated library and computer lab, a college planning office, a ground floor office, significant green space, and ample learning spaces for key electives.

“We have a responsibility to our students and families to provide an excellent education starting from grade six to the doors of college,” said Bill Mahler, Jr., chair of the Milwaukee Excellence Board of Directors. “Where students learn is a key part of our promise. With the stability afforded by a longer-term lease for our high school, we can more fully focus our attention on finalizing plans for a permanent, lasting school home to serve students on the northside of Milwaukee well into the future.”

The high school location on W. Brown Deer Road will house grades nine through twelve, with the 2022.23 school year commemorating Milwaukee Excellence’s first high school graduating class. Middle school students in grades six through eight will continue to be located at the school’s location at 4950 N. 24th Street.
