Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley Orders Special Election for 14th Supervisory District

MILWAUKEE, WI – Today, Tuesday, February 14, County Executive David Crowley formally called for a special election to fill the vacancy in the 14th Supervisory District.

“Residents deserve fair, just, and equitable representation on the County Board of Supervisors,” said County Executive David Crowley. “Ordering an election now means the seat will be filled as soon as possible and the constituents of the 14^th will not have to wait an entire year without a democratically elected representative voicing their interests on the County Board.”

County Executive Crowley issued the call for this special election to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Dyango Zerpa. The winner of the election will fill the remainder of the incumbent’s two-year term, which expires on April 14, 2024.

Candidates may begin to collect nomination signatures today, February 14, 2023. The deadline to submit nomination papers to the Milwaukee County Election Commission is Tuesday, February 28, 2023 before 5:00 PM.

Please note this timeline is a correction to the timeline mentioned in the February 1 press release. In consultation with the Milwaukee County Elections Commission, this is the optimal timeline to ensure timely printing and delivery of ballots, as required by Wisconsin State Statutes, which is 22 days prior to the election. The February 28 date also takes into consideration the mandatory 72 hours allowed by statute to challenge ballot access (Friday, March 3, 2023 at 5pm).

If needed, the Special Primary election for the seat will coincide with the 2023 Spring Election on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 with the Special Election for County Board Supervisor District 14 being held on May 2, 2023.
