Milwaukee Community Sailing Center Benefit Lobster Boil Set for August 31, 2018
Supporting Sailing Experiences for At-Risk Youth and Individuals with Individuals with Special Needs.
(MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, August 19, 2018) – The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center will host an authentic Maine Lobster Boil on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 6 pm to 9 pm on the Sailing Center lawn under covered tents. This benefit provides funding for sailing excursions and outtings for individuals with special needs and at-risk youth. The evening kicks off with a full array of passed appetizers prepared by our partner Zilli Hospitality Group. Then guests are treated to an authentic Maine Lobster boil featuring whole lobster flown in for the evening and expertly prepared by our friends at St. Paul Fish Market in the Milwaukee Public Market and Sailing Center volunteers. The Lobster Boil comes complete with traditional boiled potatoes and Wisconsin corn on-the-cob and drawn butter followed by dessert. A silent auction with a unique array of speciality gifts and experiences for bidding. The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center is celebrating its 40th anniversary with over 14,000 people having gone through our program since its inception. The Center was created by a group of sailing advocates in 1970s to increase access to the sport of sailing and Lake Michigan, our most valuable natural resource. Located in Veterans Park in the McKinley Marina on Lake Michigan, the Sailing Center has become a model for other centers around the globe and has been recognized for its innovative programming. The Sailing Center has over 500 members and has programs for children as young as eight, an extensive all-day summer youth program and more than 20 different classes for adults. Year-round membership includes a variety of enrichment classes, guest speakers, a book club and social opportunities. Every summer the Sailing Center hosts more than 800 individuals with special needs from a wide variety of community and social service organizations. Scholarships are available to members at who demonstrate financial need.
