Milwaukee Bucks Sign Johni Broome

Team waives John Butler Jr.

MILWAUKEE (Oct. 6, 2026) – The Milwaukee Bucks have signed Johni Broome and waived John Butler Jr.

Broome, a 6-10, 235-pound guard, appeared in 11 games last season as a rookie with the Philadelphia 76ers and totaled 10 points and 16 rebounds in 55 minutes of action. He also played in 26 games (all starts) while on assignment with the Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League last season, where he averaged 21.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals in 32.9 minutes per game while shooting 46.7% from the field. The 24-year-old reached double figures in scoring 24 times and tallied nine double-doubles with Delaware, highlighted by a 50-point, 17-rebound performance on Jan. 16.

Originally selected by the 76ers with the 35th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Broome played five collegiate seasons with Morehead State (2020-22) and Auburn (2022-25), appearing in 168 games and making 163 starts. He owns college career averages of 16.1 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.7 assists per game with a 53.9% mark overall from the field. Broome totaled 1,594 rebounds in his college career, the 17th-most in NCAA history, while leading the SEC in 2024-25 in total rebounds (389) and rebounds per game (10.8) and leading the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in 2021-22 in total rebounds (358) and rebounds per game (10.5). The Plant City, Florida, native earned All-OVC or All-SEC honors in each of his five seasons, and he was named to the 2024-25 Consensus All-America First Team.

Butler Jr. appeared in five games with Milwaukee’s 2026 NBA Summer League team, averaging 3.2 points in 4.6 minutes per game. The Mauldin, South Carolina, native spent the 2025-26 season playing with the Wisconsin Herd in the NBA G League, where he saw action in 49 games (40 starts) and averaged 9.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals in 28.6 minutes per game.
