NEW YORK – For the fifth time in program history, the Marquette University men’s golf team had four athletes selected as All-BIG EAST honorees, the conference announced Wednesday morning.

Mason Schmidtke and Mischa Candinas earned spots on the First Team while Johan Widal and Vincent Cervantes were named to the Second Team. Since the league moved to separate first and second teams in 2016, MU has earned at least two spots on the first team seven times.

The Golden Eagles garnered four of the 10 spots on the two teams. No other team had more than one.

Schmidtke was MU’s top ranked golfer at No. 328 in the Scoreboard national rankings. He was second on the team in scoring average with a 72.69 in 33 total rounds this season. The junior from Sheboygan, Wis. was runner-up at the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” and fifth at the Bluegrass Collegiate Invite and recorded two top five and three top 10 finishes during the 2025-26 season.

Candinas led Marquette in scoring average at 72.51 in 33 rounds played, the second-best scoring average for a freshman in program history. Ranked No. 359, he placed third at the 2026 BIG EAST Championship, finishing at 7-under and jumping eight spots on the leaderboard after a final round 68. The newcomer from Geroldswil, Switzerland posted two top 10 finishes during the spring.

Widal, a native of Halmstad, Sweden, was a first team all-conference selection a season ago and placed ninth at the 2026 BIG EAST Championship at 4-under par. Ranking No. 416, he had a team-leading six top 20 finishes.

Cervantes – a second team all-league pick in 2024-25 and the 2025 Freshman of the Year – had three top three finishes in 2025-26 and tied for 15th at BIG EAST’s. Ranked No. 470, he carded a team-high 19 rounds under par. Cervantes, a Chandler, Ariz. native, claimed the team’s lone individual medal this year, tying for first at the Bluegrass Collegiate Invitational.
