Two of Irish music’s most revered singers known for the depth, beauty and joy in their exploration and interpretation, Maura O’Connell and Karan Casey will present an evening of songs and stories during a concert at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Titled “A Celebration of Song and Life,” O’Connell and Casey explore a world view of what it means to be an Irish woman today as well as make the connection between events and their impact on people’s lives. This collaboration of two courageous, uncompromising and independent Irish women allows a freshness in approach to their long-established solo careers and gives them the opportunity to share the sheer enjoyment of singing.

Blending Irish and progressive American folk singing styles, O’Connell burst onto the traditional music scene in the 1980s as vocalist with Irish super group De Dannan. Her singing has brought her worldwide acclaim, two Grammy nominations and collaborations with numerous artists including Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss, The Chieftains and Van Morrison.

Casey is one of the most influential and innovative vocalists in Irish and American folk music. She is the former lead singer with Solas, has recorded six solo albums and performed with such luminaries as Liam Clancy, James Taylor, Mick Moloney, Peggy Seeger and the Dubliners. Karan’s soulful voice has been featured on more than 50 albums and she recently performed with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

Joining O’Connell and Casey are two highly respected musicians. John Mock is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who performs solo, with symphony orchestras and with well-known artists including James Taylor and Dolly Parton. Ed Boyd is the highly regarded guitarist with two of Irish music’s top traditional bands: Lúnasa and Flook, in which he is a founding member.

“It is indeed a true gift to be in the presence of sublime artists who become lost in the moment and the essence of the song…enriching and inspiring.” – lonesomehighway.com
