For the first time ever, the 7th-ranked  Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Stormers Men’s Basketball team is in the semi-finals with a chance to play for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II championship.

At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, the Stormers (30-4) will battle the Orange County Community College Colts (31-1) of Middleton, New York. The NJCAA Division II Tournament is hosted by Danville Area Community College in Danville, Illinois. Games can be live streamed via the NJCAA website. If the Stormers win, they will play Saturday night for the championship. A loss means the team will play for third place on Saturday evening, ahead of the championship game.

The Stormers are on an historic run.

  • They advanced to the semi-final game after upsetting the No. 2 seed Niagara County Community College 79-65 Wednesday night.
  • The team was featured in February as the NJCAA Game of the Week which was live-streamed on the national platform ESPN+.
  • Head Coach Randy Casey was named Coach of the Year by the North Central Community College Conference (N4C). Coach Casey was also named the Region 4 – Midwest B District Coach of the Year.
  • MATC Stormers’ freshman guard/forward Shelton Williams-Dryden was named N4C Player of the Year.
  • Freshman Mason Johnson reached the milestone of scoring 1,000 career points.
  • Three Stormers selected for N4C All-Conference Teams: Freshman guard DeMarco Clayton and sophomore point guard Milake Stevenson were selected to the First Team while freshman guard Ke’Varius “KJ” Taylor earned a spot on the N4C Second Team.
