Mass shooting at funeral home unconscionable

Statement of Alderman Khalif J. Rainey October 1, 2020

By - Oct 1st, 2020 10:34 am

A heinous drive-by shooting yesterday targeting mourners outside the Serenity Funeral Home on W. Fond du Lac Ave. (in the 7th Aldermanic District) is too shocking for words. Seven people attending a service (notably for a man killed by gunfire earlier in September) were wounded, and I cannot fathom how anyone could commit such an unspeakable act of violence in a place that is regarded as a haven for grieving families, friends and loved ones.

How anyone could commit such egregious violence in a quiet place for prayers and final goodbyes for the departed is simply beyond comprehension. Is there NOTHING sacred to us now?!

I ask for comfort and prayers for those who were wounded and injured during this terrible incident. I also urge anyone with information on the shooting to please contact Milwaukee Police immediately at 414-935-7360, Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS (224-8477) or via the app (P3TIPS.COM).
