MILWAUKEE — The College of Nursing at Marquette University will host its James Wake Memorial Lecture virtually this year from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

Dr. Joanne Wolfe will present “Amplifying the Child and Family Voice in Pediatric Serious Illness.” Wolfe is chief of the Division of Pediatric Palliative Care the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and director of Palliative Care at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is also a professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

During the live webinar, Wolfe will describe a framework for understanding and easing suffering in pediatric serious illness — which heavily relies on listening to the patient. Wolfe will discuss research efforts aimed at amplifying the voices of seriously ill pediatric patients and their families. She will also report on early outcomes of novel interventions and their potential application to practice.

In addition to her leadership in clinical pediatric palliative care, Wolfe directs a research program focusing on easing suffering and promoting wellbeing in seriously ill children and their families. She is also co-director of the Dana-Farber Pediatric Palliative Care Research Network.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Registration is available online on Eventbrite through Monday, Nov. 9. A Teams link will be provided to registrants.

The James Wake Memorial Lecture is a biennial event in memory of James Wake, former chaplain and husband of former provost Dr. Madeline Wake. James’ career was devoted to helping others through social work and chaplaincy.
