Marquette biological sciences professor receives Way Klingler Early Career Award
The Way Klingler Early Career Award supports promising new scholars in critical stages of their careers. The awards are intended to fund $2,000 in operating cost and to cover a portion of salary to afford the recipients a one-semester release from teaching.
“I am humbled to be awarded the Way Klingler Early Career Award,” Arble said. “I am so excited for this opportunity to accelerate my research program and to continue to work alongside Marquette’s amazing graduate and undergraduate students.”
Arble specializes in sleep, circadian rhythms and metabolism. Her current research extends across several scientific disciplines, focusing on the neurological relationships between sleep and obesity and diabetes. Through her work, Arble seeks to answer crucial, long-standing questions about sleep apnea and the neurobiological mechanisms that influence this common, chronic medical condition.
One nominator wrote that “Dr. Arble is a critical faculty member for our undergraduate major in physiological sciences and has been very active in the education of graduate students as well.”
Arble’s laboratory is described as appealing, high impact and fulfilling to undergraduate researchers who receive extensive mentoring during their time with Arble.
Arble’s knowledge translates into a cathartic experience for those who are lucky enough to learn from her.
According to the nominator, Arble updated her Experimental Physiology class to be a writing intensive course, making it accessible to students from a wide range of majors. Her extensive efforts both in and out of the classroom show her dedication to be the difference.
In addition, Arble has contributed to numerous research publications in various capacities and has been cited in a diverse collection of news stories.
