Marquette and Milwaukee Play to Scoreless Draw

Marquette opens the season unbeaten through five games for the first time since 2007

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University women’s soccer team (3-0-2, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) played to a scoreless draw against Milwaukee (1-3-1, 0-0-0 HORIZON) on Thursday night at Valley Fields.

Marquette recorded 10 shots, including seven on goal, while Milwaukee finished with 11 shots and three shots on goal. Marquette goalkeeper Mia Hurd made three saves to record her second shutout of the season.

Marquette generated five shots in each half and earned five corner kicks. Jocelyn Leigh led the Golden Eagles with four shots, including three on goal, while Megan Murray added two shots, both of which were on target. Ella McAleenan also registered two shots, including one on goal.

The Golden Eagles applied pressure throughout the second half, recording five shots and two corner kicks. Leigh put two shots on frame during the final 12 minutes, but made saves on both attempts. Murray also forced a save in the 85th minute.

Hurd made two saves in the second half, including a stop on with just over a minute remaining.

NOTABLES:

  • The Golden Eagles are undefeated through five games for the first time since the 2007 season.
  • Allessandra Russo made her first career start.
  • Ava Jack Shaw made her collegiate debut for Marquette.
