LuAnn Bird launches Assembly campaign with strong support from women and gun safety advocates

Vows to bring her problem-solving track record to the dysfunction in Madison

Hales Corners, WI – Community leader LuAnn Bird is running for Wisconsin’s 61st Assembly District to continue her work bringing people together to solve problems for her neighbors. Bird launches her campaign with endorsements from Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, Motherhood for Good, State Representative Robyn Vining, Whitnall Resident Engagement Network, Will Radler, Tyler Kelly and many others.

“I can’t sit back when I see a problem. From making our school buildings accessible for people with disabilities, to bringing sewer service to our neighborhoods, to organizing a fundraising team to raise money to build a Fisher House at the Milwaukee VA for veterans, I have a proven record of bringing people together to solve tough problems.” said Bird.

“Now I’m running for the Assembly because we have big problems in Madison and I just can’t sit back. Extreme MAGA politicians are taking away women’s rights to reproductive health care including deciding when a doctor can save a woman’s life. They’re blocking common-sense gun safety laws that would save lives and make our communities safer, and they are helping corporations jack up prices on Wisconsin families. I’ll bring people together to lower costs, defend our rights and stop gun violence.”

This past year, LuAnn’s 51-year-old nephew Darrick took his life with a gun he should not have had, shattering the lives of his children and family. LuAnn won’t stop fighting until we enact common sense gun safety laws to keep our families, schools, and communities safe.

After her husband was paralyzed more than 30 years ago, she did not sit back. Since that day she has worked tirelessly to make things accessible for persons with disabilities including serving for more than 10 years on her local school board to help pass referendums to upgrade school facilities.

]When she learned that septic tanks were failing and sewage was seeping into the water in her neighborhood, she got appointed to her sanitary district to install a sewer system.

After learning that outside groups were bringing their radical agendas into her local schools, she co-founded the Whitnall Resident Engagement Network to inform the public and elect candidates from her local community who will advocate for all children.

“I will ALWAYS work tirelessly to find solutions to improve the lives of people in my district,” she said. “I just can’t sit back when I see problems.”

LuAnn lives in Hales Corners where she is a caregiver for her husband Phil, a paralyzed veteran. The new 61st includes 86% of her former district where she came within 2 points of winning in 2022. She and supporters will gather at her home to launch her campaign on Monday, April 15th at 5:30 pm to begin signature collection to secure her place on the ballot. She can be reached at birdforwi@gmail.com for more information. Listen to her full launch interview on Civic Media.
