Kimberly-Clark Marinette Facility Transitions to Tier 2 of Green Tier

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that Kimberly-Clark Marinette (Marinette) is transitioning from Tier 1 to Tier 2 in the Green Tier program. This move places them among an elite group of companies that display a proven record of superior environmental stewardship and mature environmental management systems.

The Marinette facility produces Scott® Shop Towels, Scott® Rags-in-a-Box, WypAll® wiping products for the workplace as well as Viva® paper towels for global household and consumer use. Since joining Green Tier in 2021, the facility has successfully diverted 100% of its manufacturing waste from landfill and reduced water intensity by 6%. Moving forward, the facility will maintain and build on these accomplishments and work on lowering their energy use to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The DNR’s Green Tier program provides credible recognition to organizations that voluntarily commit to doing more than regulations require using strong management systems, continuous improvement and verification of results through third-party audits. Tier 2 participants enter into formal agreements with the DNR that allow for innovative, site‑specific approaches to environmental protection, including specialized permitting. As a Tier 2 participant, the Marinette facility is now able to operate under the Green Tier specific Registration Operation Permit, which offers a streamlined permitting process.

“We are excited to recognize Kimberly-Clark Marinette for their commitment to build off of their past achievements of reducing waste to landfill and water use,” said Connie Antonuk, DNR Secretary’s Director for Northeast Wisconsin, at a celebration earlier today of the Marinette facility’s accomplishment. “The DNR looks forward to partnering with them in this new chapter to improve energy intensity levels and foster environmental protection.”

More information about Green Tier and Kimberly-Clark Marinette’s participation is available on the DNR website.
