Joint statement on International Women’s Day
From Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa, and Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic
On International Women’s Day, especially, we celebrate and recognize the amazing achievements of women and girls in Milwaukee and reaffirm our commitment to removing remaining barriers to advance gender equality in the city.
The theme for 2023 International Women’s Day is ‘Embrace Equity,’ and we have been working diligently to make equity and inclusion a key facet of City of Milwaukee culture. In unison with the ‘Embrace Equity’ theme, we are committed to challenging gender stereotypes, calling out discrimination, drawing attention to bias, and seeking out inclusion.
We invite the public to follow ‘How Women and Girls Transformed the World!’ – our own celebration of Women’s History Month – where we will convene prior to the full Common Council meeting on Tuesday, March 21 with speeches, poetry, and other activities. In addition, we will feature women’s history honorees on the city website and the City Channel during the week of March 20 – March 24 – a week that will also include Girls’ Day @ City Hall on March 23.
We embrace International Women’s Day because it stands for inclusivity and equality, and we believe that working together, we can all forge positive change.
