JoAnne Sabir Appointed to Wisconsin Center District Board

MILWAUKEE, WI – (August 2, 2019) –  The Wisconsin Center District (WCD) has announced the appointment of JoAnne Sabir to the board of directors. The WCD owns and operates the Wisconsin Center, Miller High Life Theatre, and UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.

“The Wisconsin Center District and its facilities are on the brink of significant change,” said Sabir. “I’m looking forward to relying on my experience as an entrepreneur and collaborator to guide the WCD toward innovation and inclusion.”

Sabir’s appointment was made by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

“I am very excited by the appointment of JoAnne Sabir,” said Marty Brooks, President & CEO of the WCD. “JoAnne’s entrepreneurial spirit and tenacity in her own business ventures has proven her to be a thoughtful organizer and collaborator. The WCD Board and staff will benefit from her passion and guidance.”

A self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur, Sabir is co-founder of The Shindig; Sauce and Spice Pizza; Freedom Endeavors Real Estate Development, and the Sherman Phoenix. As co-owner of the Sherman Phoenix, Sabir has created a model of positive economic impact and social returns in communities of color. Sabir has been awarded the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 Award as well as the Biz Times Community Leader of the Year Award.

The next meeting of the WCD board will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019.
