Herzing University Moving National Headquarters to Milwaukee’s “The Avenue”
Nonprofit career-focused school returns to founding city; continues business momentum to Westown
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (August 23, 2021) – Herzing University, an accredited, private nonprofit institution with locations in seven states and a nationally recognized online division, announced today it is moving its national headquarters to The Avenue in downtown Milwaukee.
The move from its current suburban location to the Westown neighborhood is a nod to Herzing’s roots. The school – which now has 10 campuses nationwide – was founded in Milwaukee in 1965 and was located within a block of what is now The Avenue site for 40 years. Herzing’s headquarters will become a centerpiece of the dynamic downtown development, which will include residential space, offices and a food hall. Herzing will relocate to The Avenue by the first quarter of 2022.
Herzing will occupy almost 22,000 square feet at The Avenue, 275 W. Wisconsin Ave. The space features a private balcony overlooking Wisconsin Avenue. The Avenue, which is a joint venture between Hempel Real Estate and Interstate Development Company, is a 333,000 square foot mixed-use development project, much of which was formerly known as The Grand Avenue Mall. The Avenue’s $72 million renovation started in 2018 and also includes Plankinton Clover Apartments and 3rd Street Market Hall.
“We are thrilled to welcome Herzing University’s corporate offices to The Avenue Campus early next year,” said Hempel CEO and President Josh Krsnak. “Herzing’s commitment to relocating from the suburbs to downtown, and, particularly, to Westown, is yet another indication of the strength of this submarket. Herzing is a well-respected institution in Milwaukee, and we’re confident that they will continue to impactfully serve the community from this new, centrally located headquarters space. With esteemed organizations such as Milwaukee Downtown, Tempo, Good Karma Brands, Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC) and others recently leasing space at The Avenue, Herzing is in excellent company.”
Tim Sheehy, president of the MMAC, sees great potential in Herzing’s move to downtown Milwaukee. “Herzing has been a leader in partnering with the business community to meet their needs for well-trained workers who can fill in-demand positions,” he said. “We look forward to working with our new neighbor to help businesses across the Milwaukee area and beyond.”
In addition to Wisconsin campuses in Brookfield, Kenosha and Madison, Herzing also has locations in New Orleans, Louisiana; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Atlanta, Georgia; Orlando and Tampa, Florida; Birmingham, Alabama; and Akron, Ohio. Also, Herzing has been an online education leader for many years, with national recognition from U.S. News and World Report since 2013.
Herzing is a transfer-friendly university specializing in nursing, healthcare, technology, business and public safety degree programs. The school’s personalized approach to education, accelerated formats and flexible schedules have resonated with students across the country.
