Help needed: Good Samaritan killed in hit-and-run incident

Statement of Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs and County Supervisor Priscilla Coggs-Jones June 22, 2021

By - Jun 22nd, 2021 04:35 pm

We are asking for the public’s help in catching the person or persons responsible for the death of a 60-year-old man who was struck in a hit-and-run crash that occurred on Sunday evening (June 20) at N. 10th and Walnut.

Family members of the victim told a local media outlet that the man (a pedestrian) had just helped someone in a wheelchair cross the street when he was hit by a vehicle that had been driven in a reckless manner. Immediately after the crash, the driver drove away and fled the scene.

Our prayers and condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends. It is inconceivable to us that someone could strike another human being with a vehicle and then not only not help the victim, but leave them there to die.

Milwaukee Police have described the striking vehicle as a four-door sedan.

We strongly encourage the community to help bring justice in this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips App for a cash reward.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident can receive help by the calling the city’s Trauma Response Team (MPD), at 414-257-7621.
