Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic will join city staff and project partners for the grand opening of the redesigned Zillman Park at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31 as part of Bay View Gallery Night.

The goal of the Zillman Park redesign was to enhance recreational opportunities in the area and craft a multi-functional, intergenerational public space for all to utilize. The park design takes into consideration the feedback and suggestions collected throughout the community engagement process, and includes 22,960 square feet of lawn area, 9,235 square feet of plaza (paved) area, and 1,525 square feet of native garden area.

“Zillman Park is the gateway to Bay View, and I am excited that we will be able to celebrate the opening of this new, community-centric public space as part of Bay View Gallery Night,” said Alderwoman Dimitrijevic. “I want to thank all of the project partners for their hard work, and the community for their engagement and input in this process. I look forward to the opening later this month.”

Additionally, the Council’s Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee passed a file on Tuesday, May 14 to expend $1.4 million worth of funding from Tax Incremental District 100 (Zillman Park) for public infrastructure improvement. The enhancements include a protected bike lane connection from Bay View to downtown by linking the Kinnickinnic River Trail to the Oak Leaf Trail.

The Bay View Community Center and 1840 Brewing will host a beer garden in Zillman Park as part of Bay View Gallery Night alongside the Milwaukee Maker’s Market. A celebratory toast will take place as part of the park grand opening.

Quorum Architects led the community engagement and design, and partnered with City of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Plays, and the Bay View Neighborhood Association to facilitate meetings and collect feedback.
