MADISON Governor Scott Walker today appointed Attorney Kevin Klein to serve as a judge on the Price County Circuit Court, replacing retiring Judge Douglas T. Fox.

“Kevin Klein will serve the people well on the Price County Circuit Court,” said Governor Walker. “Klein brings an incredible breadth of professional and community service experience to the Price County bench. His achievements and his commitment to the rule of law give me great confidence that he will make an excellent judge.”

Kevin Klein has lived and worked in Price County since 1981, where he has gained extensive experience in both civil and criminal law as a general practice and trial attorney. He has been an active member of the State Bar of Wisconsin for over twenty years where he served on the Board of Governors and as president. Klein also served as president of the Price-Taylor County Bar for more than twenty years and is currently a Price County Court Commissioner.

In addition to his legal experience, Klein has been involved within his community as a member of the Price County Security and Facilities Committee, the Phillips Area Chamber of Commerce, and as a member of his church finance committee. Klein also volunteers his time with the Flambeau Hospital Foundation and Price County Women’s Health Alliance events, and as a youth athletic coach.

Retiring Price Circuit Court Judge Douglas T. Fox highly recommends Klein stating, “Klein has shown himself to be competent in the law, temperate in his demeanor, and respectful to other lawyers, litigants, and the court. [H]e possesses all the necessary qualifications to serve as a Circuit Judge.”

St. Croix County Circuit Court Judge R. Michael Waterman also wrote in support of Klein. “Kevin has a deep respect for the rule of law. He has the ability to set aside his personal views and faithfully apply the text of the law. Kevin understands the role of the judiciary is limited and that separation of powers means something. He has the strength, courage, and integrity to exercise restraint and reject pressures to deviate from the proper role of a judge.”

Klein received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and his undergraduate degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He resides in Phillips with his wife, Kathleen.
