MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced today his appointment of Michael Albrecht to serve as Sauk County District Attorney.
Albrecht currently serves as assistant district attorney in the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office, where he has worked for more than eight years. He prosecutes many of the most serious felonies in the county and serves on the Sauk County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
“Mr. Albrecht is the right person to take over the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office, a place he knows well. He is highly respected and well liked throughout the community,” said Gov. Evers. “Mr. Albrecht clearly loves serving his hometown and county, and I am confident he will serve them well in this role.”
“I was very pleased to hear that Governor Evers has appointed Michael Albrecht as the new Sauk County District Attorney,” said retired Sauk County Circuit Court Judge James Evenson. “I have known and worked with Michael for several years and he is an excellent choice for this very important office. He has the necessary experience, demeanor, and courtroom and administrative skills to be an effective district attorney.”
Gov. Evers’ appointment of Albrecht will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of district attorney Kevin Calkins. Albrecht will fill the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2021.
