MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced today his appointment of Hannah Schuchart to serve as Oconto County District Attorney. The appointment fills a vacancy created by former District Attorney Edward D. Burke Jr.’s resignation. Schuchart will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2025.

“Hannah Schuchart is a well-respected attorney with trial experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney,” said Gov. Evers. “Her well-established relationships in the county will serve her and the people of Oconto County well as she embarks on her new role as district attorney.”

Schuchart began her legal career as a solo practitioner in 2014. Within a few months, she was offered a position with the State Public Defender’s Office, where she zealously represented indigent clients in Oconto and Marinette counties. Since 2017, she has served as an Assistant District Attorney in Brown County. In this role, she has taken to trial numerous significant cases, including armed robberies, shootings, stabbings, sexual assaults, and serious domestic violence offenses.

“It is extremely impactful to have a cooperative relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office,” said Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban. “I am thrilled to have Hannah onboard as the appointed District Attorney for Oconto County. She will be a great addition to #teamOC! I look forward to working collaboratively to safeguard and protect the citizens of Oconto County.”

“It is with great honor that I accept the appointment by Governor Evers to serve as District Attorney for Oconto County,” said Schuchart. “I have been fortunate to build and maintain strong relationships with all participants in the Oconto County criminal justice system and I am uniquely situated to understand both the strengths and struggles of the community. I am committed to furthering the safety and well-being of Oconto County citizens each day. I look forward to working alongside law enforcement, the incredible staff in the District Attorney’s Office, as well as the wider court system, to ensure that justice is served.”

Schuchart is a graduate of Purdue University and the Michigan State University College of Law.
