Gov. Evers Appoints Anthony Nehls to the Fond du Lac County Circuit Court

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced today his appointment of Anthony Nehls to the Fond du Lac County Circuit Court – Branch 1. The appointment will fill a vacancy being created by Judge Dale L. English’s retirement, effective Dec. 5, 2022. Nehls will complete a term ending July 31, 2024.

“Mr. Nehls is a knowledgeable, well-respected attorney who has served the Fond du Lac County community for more than a decade,” said Gov. Evers. “The experience and dedication to public service that he brings to the bench will make him an excellent judge for the people of Fond du Lac County.”

Nehls has lived in and been practicing law in Fond du Lac County for the past 15 years. He operates his own law office in Mount Calvary, where he represents clients in a wide variety of cases. His primary practice areas have included criminal defense, juvenile delinquency cases, child in need of protection and services cases, and termination of parental rights cases, as well as estate planning, probate, and real estate transactions. Prior to starting his own firm, he was an assistant state public defender for one year in the Fond du Lac District Attorney’s Office.

“Atty. Nehls has appeared in my courtroom in many cases over the years, and I have always found him to be well-reasoned, well-prepared, and a zealous advocate for his client,” said Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Dale L. English. “In addition, he has experience in many areas of the law, which will serve him well as he undertakes his duties as a circuit court judge. He previously served our country with honor in the military, and he will now have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Fond du Lac County with honor as well.”

Nehls lives in Ripon and is a graduate of the Marquette University Law School. Prior to his legal career, Nehls served in the U.S. Army for 12 years, enlisting at the age of 20. A paratrooper, he was a SOT-A Team Sergeant in the Special Forces, working with people from across the country and forming friendships across the globe while serving on multiple continents.

Retiring Judge Dale English was a tireless worker who was committed to fairness, treating all parties with respect, and the safety of our community.
