Golden Eagles Soar Past Eagles on Senior Night
The Marquette University men’s soccer team (6-5-2, 0-5-0 BIG EAST) hosted Edgewood University at Valley Field for Senior Night. The golden Eagles honored 10 seniors with a 2-0 shutout victory.
The Golden Eagles struck early and added a second after halftime, while goalkeeper Marten Brink posted a three-save shutout.Marquette found the back of the net in the 11th minute when Mads Horgoien buried a finish from close range off an assist from Nico Pendleton. The Golden Eagles continued to apply pressure, outshooting the Eagles 9–3 in the opening 45 minutes.
The Golden Eagles doubled their advantage in the 66th minute. Antonio Costabile netted his second career goal, slotting home a pass from Joey Buchanan to make it 2–0.
Brink came up with key saves in the 58th and 59th minutes to preserve the clean sheet, as the Marquette defense limited Edgewood to just three shots on goal for the night.
Overall, the Golden Eagles outshot the Eagles 24–10, including a 15–3 edge in shots on target.
