Golden Eagles Roll Past Truman State, 4-1, to Remain Unbeaten
MU opens season 3-0 for second-straight season
MILWAUKEE, WI — The Marquette University women’s soccer team remained unbeaten to open the 2026 season, cruising to a 4-1 victory over Truman State Wednesday afternoon at Valley Fields.
Jocelyn Leigh opened the scoring in the ninth minute, heading home a goal assisted by Ella McAleenan at the 8:41 mark. Olivia Hernandez doubled the Golden Eagles’ advantage less than six minutes later, scoring in the 15th minute to give Marquette a 2-0 lead.
Haley Christianson added to the advantage in the 25th minute. Callie Hefner assisted on the goal, which gave the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead which they carried into halftime.
The Golden Eagles continued their offensive pressure after the break, with Carly Christopher scoring at the 54:12 mark to push the lead to 4-0.
Truman State got on board late as they converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute, however the Golden Eagles held on for the 4-1 victory.
NOTES:
- Leight found the back of the net for the first time this season
- Christopher’s goal was the second of her career

The Golden Eagles are back in action on Sunday, Aug. 23 as they travel to Madison, Wisconsin to take on the Badgers of the Wisconsin. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. CT.
