CAYCE, S.C. – The Marquette University women’s tennis team dropped its opening match of the BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Championships, 4-0, to ninth-seeded Seton Hall at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center
The eighth-seeded Golden Eagles fell behind early as the Pirates claimed the doubles point with 6-1 and 6-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Seton Hall used straight set wins at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions to clinch the win.
Marquette closes out the season at 8-14 overall.
Coach Barnett on the defeat:
“Congrats to Seton Hall for playing a great match and advancing today. I am so proud of this team for how they played and battled all year. This match is not indicative of the growth that we have made as a program. We have come so far and done so many great things this year that everyone can be proud of. Thank you to Emma for everything she has given Marquette over the years. The foundation is set for the program to keep growing and improving. We will be back stronger than ever next year.”
