Germanson to receive 2014 Frank P. Zeidler Public Service Award

Kenneth “Ken” Germanson will be presented with the 2014 Frank P. Zeidler Public Service Award tomorrow (Wednesday, September 3) at City Hall.

Kenneth “Ken” Germanson will be presented with the 2014 Frank P. Zeidler Public Service Award tomorrow (Wednesday, September 3) at City Hall. A presentation will take place in the third floor Common Council Chamber anteroom at 8:30 a.m., prior to the start of the regular Common Council meeting at 9 a.m. (in the Council Chamber) at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.

A native Milwaukeean, Mr. Germanson has been active in civic affairs for many years, and is a longtime advocate for workers’ rights, access to health care and higher education for low-income families. Mr. Germanson is a former newspaper reporter, longtime labor union leader and community agency worker. Since his retirement in 1992, he has worked for Community Advocates, Inc., in advocacy services involving health care for low-income families, youth development, child abuse prevention and other areas

The honor is awarded annually recognizing city residents who best exemplify former (and the late) Mayor Frank P. Zeidler’s legacy of social justice and civic accomplishment. The award was established by the Common Council to recognize leaders in the city who have not served as elected officials.
