Five Points Exchange Charette Community Presentation

News release from Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs

By - Aug 15th, 2018 04:35 pm

Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs will host a community presentation TOMORROW — Thursday, August 16 to further explore future development opportunities in the 6th Aldermanic District’s Harambee Five Points Exchange commercial area.

The meeting – referred to as a “charette” (an intensive architectural/development planning meeting) – will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church, 3879 N. Port Washington Rd. The public is invited to take part in the meeting.

The Five Points Exchange commercial area encompasses the area where N. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. merges at W. Keefe Ave. and extends to N. Atkinson Ave. and N. 6th St.

Alderwoman Coggs said she took part in a similar meeting in June 2013 that focused on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. sites. Following that charette, five potential projects in the King Dr. corridor were identified, including the Malcolm X Academy property redevelopment, Milwaukee Enterprise Center redevelopment, the former vacant parcel that is now a new parking lot that helped bring back Gee’s Clippers to 2215 N. MLK Dr. and the redevelopment of a property at King Dr. and Center St.

“All residents, business owners and stakeholders are invited to attend Thursday’s charette,” Alderwoman Coggs said.

“Together, we can find new ways to grow and develop this promising area of the 6th District,” she said.

Event sponsors are Alderwoman Coggs, the City of Milwaukee, Historic King Drive BID, Bader Philanthropies, Inc. and Riverworks Center.
