MADISON – Sen. Kelda Roys turned in nomination papers collected by grassroots volunteers from every corner of the state to become the first gubernatorial candidate to qualify for the ballot yesterday beating the June 1 deadline by 12 days. The primary election will take place August 11 and the general election will follow November 3.

“Kelda Roys is the only candidate showing momentum in this race. With unmatched work ethic, she’s traveling the state outlining her vision to deliver higher wages, lower costs, and more freedoms. Wisconsinites demonstrated their excitement by putting her on the ballot before any other candidate,” said Jasper Bernstein, campaign manager. “We are building a campaign that will not only win the primary but deliver a Democratic Assembly and Senate alongside a resounding defeat of Tom Tiffany and Trump’s authoritarian agenda.”

Roys is endorsed by the teacher’s union, WEAC, which is the largest union in the state and the most significant endorsement in the Democratic primary. Roys also touts the most endorsements of elected and former elected officials in the race.

Roys said, “We are building a durable movement for transformative change for Wisconsinites – reversing decades of wage stagnation, lowering costs for healthcare, childcare, and property taxes, and ensuring the next generation of parents can guarantee their kids enjoy the freedom to thrive.”
