Energy from Women’s March Continues in 2018
Last weekend, in communities like Green Bay, Wausau, Eau Claire and Milwaukee, thousands of Wisconsinites joined together to celebrate the mobilization and unity of the last year and stand strong against the challenges to come in 2018.

MADISON – On the 45th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) celebrates the energy created by the Women’s March in support of issues important to women and families, including access to safe, legal abortion.
A year ago this week, millions joined together to participate in the largest demonstration in history – the Women’s March. Last weekend, in communities like Green Bay, Wausau, Eau Claire and Milwaukee, thousands of Wisconsinites joined together to celebrate the mobilization and unity of the last year and stand strong against the challenges to come in 2018.
“We’ve seen an incredible amount of engagement sparked by the first Women’s March, and we’re looking forward to carrying that momentum through 2018.” said Nicole Safar, Executive Director of PPAWI. “We’re seeing women step into leadership roles at the community and electoral level – record numbers of women are running for office, mobilizing at the local, state and federal level using their collective voices. We know 2018 will be a pivotal year for issues that impact women and families like access to health care, paid leave and policies that protect immigrants and refugees.”
Since the inaugural Women’s March in 2017, women have led the charge against repealing the Affordable Care Act and blocking women from preventive care at Planned Parenthood, spoke up about sexual harassment and assault and paved the way for important electoral victories across the country, including last week in Wisconsin.
“2018 is all about making sure we hold politicians accountable to enacting laws that benefit women and families,” said Safar. “Wisconsin women are energized, motivated and ready to make change in our state.”
Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin is the advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. PPAWI engages in legislative and educational activity and works to elect candidates to office that support these goals.
