Today, the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee approved a resolution amending the project plan for Tax Incremental District No. 94 (1st and Becher) to support the creation of a skate park in Milwaukee. Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic and Common Council President José G. Pérez sponsored the file for the skate park to be constructed with TID funding at the intersection of W. Rogers and S. 5th Streets. The project will also include painting 12 pillars located under the freeway overpass along S. 4th Street, and nearby roadway improvements.

“It is an abnormality for a city of Milwaukee’s size to not have a skate park, and for years and years we’ve been hearing that a skate park is an amenity that the community wants. We are now one step closer to making that a reality,” said President Pérez. “I want to thank all of the community partners who have been involved in this process. Their support and advocacy has helped us get to this point, and I look forward to the skate community playing a significant role in the park development. This project will be a true win-win for the city as we redevelop an underused parking lot into a new, vibrant asset, and undertake additional public improvements in the area at the same time.”

The total project cost will be $2,852,000, and the skate park development will be administered through the city’s MKE Parks program. The file will be before the full Common Council for adoption at its next meeting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17.
