David Crowley Statement in Honor of Indigenous People’s Day
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Today, on Indigenous People’s Day, David Crowley released the following statement:
“Today, on Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor Wisconsin’s Indigenous peoples, celebrate their rich history and impactful contributions, and recognize the strength and resilience of the tribal nations who have called this land home for generations.
“Wisconsin is stronger because of our tribal nations and the longstanding partnerships we have built together. Those partnerships have strengthened our communities, contributed to our economy, and helped move our state forward.
“To Wisconsin’s tribal nations and Indigenous communities, my promise is simple: I will show up. I will listen. I will ensure tribal leaders have a seat at the table and a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their communities. And I will honor the sovereignty of Wisconsin’s tribal nations, and my administration will meaningfully engage in the consultation process as equals. Our critical relationship that is fundamental to Wisconsin’s future.
“Together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous Wisconsin where every community has the opportunity to thrive.”
