The Facts
- Led the transition from Milwaukee County’s outdated Mental Health Complex to the nationally recognized Mental Health Emergency Center, providing faster, more appropriate care.
- Opened the Marcia P. Coggs Health and Human Services Center, expanding access and bringing critical county services together under one roof.
- Created and expanded the Credible Messenger Program, providing mentorship, life coaching, family resources, and violence intervention for youth involved in or at risk of the justice system.
- Launched the Advance Peace initiative, an evidence-based gun violence prevention program that connects high-risk youth with intensive support and opportunities.
- Invested more than $80 million in Milwaukee County’s public safety continuum, emphasizing prevention, intervention, and community-based approaches to reducing violence.
- Revived the Milwaukee County Youth Commission to elevate youth voices in policymaking and advise county leaders on issues affecting young people.
- Secured state funding for new community violence intervention programs through the Destined for Greater initiative, integrating behavioral health, violence prevention, youth programming, and family support under one coordinated strategy.
- Invested in family stability through expanded eviction prevention, flexible rental assistance, and supportive services that help families remain safely housed while accessing needed health and social services.
