WEST ALLIS – While some gracefully move their bodies through the air to stick the landing, or spike a volleyball over a net atop the beach to win big, Wisconsinites have their eyes on the real prize: the All-American Cran-on-a-Stick. To coincide with the events happening in Rio de Janeiro, the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association today debuted its white chocolate-covered cranberries on a stick with red and blue icing drizzle for the 2016 Wisconsin State Fair.

“Our All-American Cran-on-a-Stick is better than any prize you can wear around your neck! The sweet white chocolate complements the tart cranberries perfectly,” said Tom Lochner, executive director of the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association. “After the success of our traditional chocolate-covered cranberry on a stick products last year, we were eager to get back into the kitchen with Niemann’s to create a new, original product.”

Other cranberry food products for the 2016 Fair include the classic dark chocolate-covered Cran-on-a-Stick, cranberry extract water, cranberry juice cocktail and the famous State Fair Cranberry White Chocolate Chunk Cookie. During the Fair’s “Crazy Grazin’ Day” on Tuesday, Aug. 9, fairgoers can enjoy a 30 percent discount on the popular cookie, while supplies last.

In addition to food sales, the booth, located in the Wisconsin Products Pavilion, will feature educational videos about the state’s number one fruit crop, cranberry samples, a model marsh, and the popular interactive mini-marsh, complete with real vines, an irrigation system and floating fresh cranberries. Ruby the cranberry mascot will also make appearances at the booth daily from 2-5 p.m.

Niemann’s, located in Wauwatosa, works with WSCGA to produce the chocolate-covered Cran-on-a-Stick. The candy company has created homemade candy and ice cream since 1919.

WSCGA was founded in 1887 and is committed to developing and implementing programs that will assist growers in doing a better job of growing cranberries and strengthening the public support for the industry in Wisconsin.
